What's New @ WGBH Teachers' Domain

It's springtime!
Time for the Physics of Baseball and with summer just around the corner, the Physics of Sailing. So if you're looking for "eggcellent" spring classroom themes and resources, you're in the right place. Teachers' Domain has brand new content from NOVA, Masterpiece, Poetry Everywhere, and much more. Enjoy!

Great Expectations

New classroom resources for ELA

A Masterpiece drama collection on Teachers' Domain finally becomes a reality with Great Expectations, available just in time for the premiere. Three scenes from the broadcast are presented for classroom discussion: the novel's famously dramatic opening (Setting the Scene), Pip's Becoming a Gentleman, and the controversial ending (Happily Ever After?). Stay tuned for Part 2 of the series on Sunday, April 8th!

Coming Soon: Resources for Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre.

NOVA's Hunting the Elements

Special broadcast with a LIVE Share-a-Thon, app, and game!

Where do nature's building blocks, called "the elements," come from? To unlock their secrets, David Pogue, technology correspondent of The New York Times, spins viewers through the weird world of extreme chemistry. NOVA's Hunting the Elements, a two-part special, premieres 4/4 at 9 PM. Watch online starting 4/5.

Join us for a LIVE Educator Share-a-Thon during the show on NOVA Education's Facebook page and download the free NOVA Elements iPad app, launching this week on iTunes. This interactive periodic table of the elements app allows you to build atoms and assemble molecules into everyday objects in the My Essential Elements game.

Coming soon: NOVA Labs, the new online research site for teens, will launch the first Lab (on the Sun) in late April. Watch the NOVA website for launch information.

Poetry Everywhere

April is National Poetry Month!

New additions to the Poetry Everywhere collection from former U.S. Poet Laureates Ted Kooser and Billy Collins present a wry and charming perspective on the human experience: Success and Forgetfulness.

Poetry Everywhere offers 42 short poetry films taken from unexpected moments in the PBS series. All of the resources have been contextualized for classroom use, including a background essay, discussion questions, and alignment to standards.

Earth Day (April 22nd)

Teacher Favorites!

Guess How Whales Hear?

Kathryn Fletcher of Bilingual European School gave this K-5 science resource five stars:

"I used this mini-documentary with my year one class and they loved it. Before we watched the video I introduced key concepts like 'what is a scientist', and 'how do humans hear?' I taught them some mildly specialized vocab. (e.g. ear canal, ear bones, experiment) and it was very cute to see their eyes light up when the scientist in the documentary used those words. Highly recommended."
